POSITION SUMMARY This position provides instrumentation technical assistance to refinery Operations, Maintenance and Technical Departments. An individual in this position is responsible for a variety of projects and assignments including maintenance, reliability, safety, design, engineering, troubleshooting, tuning and upgrading of refinery control systems, instrumentation and analyzers. EDUCATION REQUIREMENT • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering required. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS • Minimum 3 years of experience in instrumentation or analyzers preferred. • Familiarization with refinery processes. Design/installation experience in a refinery or manufacturing environment desired. • Specific experience with Bailey INFI-90 DCS, PLC controls, pneumatic/electronic I/O devices, UPS systems and VFD controls, analyzers. MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES • Provides specifications and installation guidelines for instruments, instrument systems and analyzers. Provides technical leadership to others in the field of instrumentation and analyzers. • Performs control valve sizing calculations. Also responsible for sizing and selection of orifice plates and other flow measurement devices. • Conducts troubleshooting of refinery-wide instrumentation systems. • Assists in a continuous improvement process by identifying new information and control applications that enhance profitability and reliability. • Responsible for control loop tuning; control optimization. • Assists with P&ID development and updating (as-built P&IDs) to reflect field changes. • Provides technical support to the maintenance department as, including supervision of instrumentation loop checks prior to system commissioning and troubleshooting instrument and analyzer issues. • Develops and maintains standardized specifications for instrument selection and installation. • Provides primary review of vendor/contractor instrumentation design to ensure compliance with refinery specifications and applicable safety codes. • Assist in training of maintenance and operations personnel. • Must be available to work during off-hours, especially for emergencies and turnarounds. • Must be able to work effectively with others at all levels and functional areas of the refinery. • Other duties as assigned COMPETENCIES Process Management: Good at figuring out the processes necessary to get things done; knows how to organize people and activities; understands how to separate and combine tasks into efficient work flow; knows what to measure and how to measure it; can see opportunities for synergy and integration where others can’t; can simplify complex processes; gets more out of fewer resources. WORK ENVIRONMENT Full-time Works 9 hour shifts, on a 9/80 schedule. May be exposed to heat, noise, vibration, humidity, smoke, fumes, dust, gases, paints and thinners. May be exposed to rain and other weather conditions. Safety glasses, goggles, earplugs, gloves, steel-toed shoes, mask, hard hat, Nomex and respirator are provided. Must be able to work extended hours and weekends as needed.
