The Role
With your developer experience in the oil and gas industry, the basics of this role should already be familiar to you. Reporting to the Developer Architect, you’ll work closely with the functional leads in Finance/Accounting, Supply Chain, Operations, and Commercial to understand and clarify business requirements, then to translate those into solution designs which can be implemented in our ERP landscape in a cost-efficient and scalable way. This will include developing custom RICEFW objects, building seamless integration with 3rd party systems, and managing the software development lifecycle of the ERP ecosystems (SAP, PDI, Hyperion, Allegro, etc.).At this time we are working with contractors to complete these tasks, so you’ll be our first in-house SAP ABAP Developer. You’ll collaborate with our strong team to bring projects from start to finish, and you’ll also work with our offshore contractors who will continue to do some maintenance and support.
With such a variety of tasks to complete, you’ll need to be good at prioritizing to ensure business needs are being met. On a daily basis, you’ll spend about 40% of your time on business support (working through tickets, troubleshooting, and maintenance) and about 60% involved in innovation projects.
You’ll call on your strong communication skills every day. Only about a third of your work will be heads-down development, with the rest spent in meetings, consultations, and working with the team to determine requirements. You’ll need to already have a strong understanding of the downstream side of the oil and gas industry and an ability to comprehend the requirements, but the functional leads you’ll be working with are very knowledgeable and ready to partner with you to get to workable solutions.
Some of your overall responsibilities will be to:
- Become the resident expert and owner on how applications and technology (web services, interfaces, partner portals, etc.) are leveraged to support front, mid, and back office for all activities
- Become the resident expert and owner on development of solution and the integration points across business functions and technology
- Ensure end-to-end understanding of all business processes, integration points, and systems solutions
