The Requirements

The ideal candidate for this role will have a strong background in trucking operations with terminal experience. To be a good fit for the Terminal Manager opportunity, you will also have:

  • An associate or bachelor's degree preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of railroad operations with terminal automation system experience
  • Strong computer skills including MS Office Suite applications, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Internet navigation; SAP experience an advantage
  • A strong safety mindset and commitment to promoting and enforcing safety best practices
  • Deep understanding of logistics
  • Proven leadership and decision-making skills; the ability work effectively with multiple levels and titles and develop others
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills; strong presentation skills
  • Outstanding organization, planning, prioritization and time management skills
  • Attention to detail; accuracy; ability to effectively balance multiple, sometimes conflicting, priorities

The Role

Role Overview
Reporting to the Logistics Manager, as Terminal Manager, you will be responsible for terminal operations and truck rack activities for our Newcastle refinery. You will direct a team of truck drivers and utility workers and be responsible for coordinating daily shipments and offsite transloading, solving problems as needed, and ensuring efficient and timely operations. You will drive collaboration to optimize efforts in scheduling, inventory management, meeting all regulatory compliance standards, budget management, and more.

Role Details
On a daily basis, you will support rail and truck operation activities associated with shipping Par Pacific's oil and gas products, including butane, and providing leadership and analytical support. You will uphold Par Pacific's unwavering commitment to maintaining a safe working environment at all times and support the Logistics manager in ensuring compliance with state and Federal DOT, PHMSA, EPA, OSHA, and other regulations. Other key responsibilities will include working with Supply & Demand on barrel counts, working with internal and external contacts on rates and budgeting, and managing inventory and tracking. 

Specifically, you will:
  • Coordinate rail car and trucking shipments
  • Oversee a team of four utility personnel and drivers
  • Order empty inbound railcars to meet loading demands while maintaining a safe car count on site for efficient rail switching
  • Input bills of lading and other required data into appropriate railcar tracking and tracing systems, ensuring data is captured accurately and recorded timely
  • Serve as primary point of contact for both external and internal customers dealing with bill of lading information, distribution of shipping nominations and shipment ratability
  • Analyze and prepare logistical and management reports under general supervision
  • Prepare fleet reports for various departments and outside parties such as, but not limited to, loaded and empty railcar tracking, transit reporting and refinery inventory
  • Conduct financial analysis and KPI reporting
  • Provide support as required, for rail tracking and tracing systems
  • Monitor railcar shipping forecast to ensure shipments are fulfilled as scheduled
  • Assist with SAP delivery creation, order changes, LOSCH (loaded on-site change) issues, and special-order requests
  • Track rail car shipments as needed
  • Liaise with the handling railroads on rail transportation issues
  • Provide daily cross-functional communication with key stakeholders throughout the organization regarding daily inbound / outbound railcar shipments
  • Liaison with customers, Customer Service, Production, Maintenance crews and others to ensure all shipments are processed properly for daily inbound / outbound shipments
