The Requirements

To meet the basic qualification for this role, you will have legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship and a high school diploma or equivalent. In addition, to be a good fit for the Terminal Operator / Driver opportunity, you will have:

  • The ability to swim and comfort with heights. 
  • At least three years of experience as a professional truck driver. Petroleum experience desired but not required. 
  • Acceptable Driver’s Abstract.   
  • A working knowledge of math and chemistry. Must be able to perform routine mathematical calculations.
  • Must be in good physical condition, mechanically inclined and be available 24 hours per day to respond to an emergency as required.
  • The ability to lift a minimum of 60 pounds.

The Role

Under the general supervision of the Terminal Supervisor, as the Terminal Operator / Driver you will step into a hybrid role where you will be responsible for performing terminal operator and tank truck driver duties by following specific policies and procedures from written or verbal instructions.  

Your Terminal Operator responsibilities will include a variety of tasks including taking daily readings from the gauges on the tanks, collecting barge receipts, inputting information into the system, managing contractors, helping with safety issues, and ensuring the equipment (pumps, load arms, gates, etc.) is maintained, repaired and operating correctly. 

For your Driver duties, you will deliver various petroleum products, primarily fuel, to both company retail sites and commercial customers.

In addition to your Operator/Driver responsibilities, you will also be responsible for landscaping and facilities maintenance activities which are outlined in more detail below. 

Terminal Operator duties:
  • Responsible for the safe and efficient handling of receipts or disbursements to include barge unloading receipts and pipeline disbursements according to company, industry and governmental guidelines.  Also responsible for quality control of products and plant maintenance.
  • Perform work in support of terminal maintenance activities, such as valve and pipeline repair, and general manual labor. Also required to be on call to respond to any emergency as instructed by the Terminal Supervisor.
  • Respond to terminal emergencies as instructed by the Terminal Supervisor, will coordinate emergency response measures. 
  • Monitor truck loading in accordance with company and industry safety procedures. 
  • Understand the operation procedures of Terminal, its equipment, machinery and tools, and operates such equipment to perform jobs for which they were designated.
  • Understand pipeline alignments and is able to manipulate the valves to direct the product flow to the desired location.
  • Gauge storage tanks for product, water, temperature and log and compute information on the proper forms.
  • Conduct measurements and sampling as required in accordance with correct American Petroleum Institute (API) standards.  
  • Perform relevant basic field test and analysis on products handled and transported by company or third-party vehicles. Test could consist of API gravity, flash point, water, viscosity,  Microseparometer (MSEP), color, and Millipore.  Assist in monitoring and reporting controls to ensure the integrity of all products being handled by Par Hawaii.
  • Perform maintenance on valves, pumps, packing, piping etc. and painting of plant components and structures as required.
  • Inspect all safety equipment weekly.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Site Supervisor.
Driver duties:
  • Drive a tank truck/trailer to deliver gasoline, diesel and other refined petroleum products to domestic and commercial customers.
  • Receive from Supervisor or truck dispatcher the customer delivery schedule and organizes the delivery route to include all required preparations for deliveries.  
  • Follow the Department of Transportation safety specifications, perform a pre-delivery trip check on tank truck and fuels, inspect truck for general operating requirements, and ascertain that all required equipment is available and in good operating condition.
  • Drive a tank truck & trailer or tractor/ trailer to customer’s location, connect hose to tank and open valves, read gauges, record amounts delivered to ensure the integrity of all products being handled by Par and leaves delivery ticket receipt with customer.
  • Establish/maintain good customer service and rapport while handling customer’s questions or schedules.  Call customers before loading/leaving load rack to make sure customer can receive load.  Answer inquiries as appropriate and/or refer customers to company source(s) for accurate response. 
  • Return to the Terminal at the end of the workday and complete post trip truck inspection to determine if repairs are necessary.
  • Accurately complete all regulatory and customary paperwork.
  • Maintain assigned work areas, tank truck vehicle and/or its equipment in a clean and orderly manner performing housekeeping chores as required and/or directed.
  • Follow, maintain and adhere to all safety rules and regulations for loading docks, customer premises, traffic laws, rules and regulations. Report all safety and environmental incidents and concerns to supervisor.
Other Duties:
  • Perform general maintenance and other duties as required.
  • Spray weed-killers on weeds and other unnecessary plants, and weeding.
  • Weed-whacking to control growth of weeds and other plants.
  • Sweeping and general up-keeping of sites daily.
  • Alternate duties including answering phones, taking orders and providing a certain amount of customer service.
  • Assist other departments in various duties as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as required.
