The Requirements
To meet the basic qualification for this role, you will have legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship. In addition, to be a good fit for the Operator opportunity, you will have:- High School Diploma or GED required
- Documented successful training in an electro-mechanical operation or trade is preferred.
- Successful employment in a previous industrial capacity is preferred. A track record of impeccable attendance will be important.
- Computer knowledge, skills and abilities desired.
- Knowledge of basic chemistry and/or physics is desired
- A valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.
- The ability to use wrenches, screw-drivers, small-to-medium sized hand tools and measuring tapes.
- Some pipe fitting experience preferred.
- The ability to respond to operational emergencies in the refinery.
- The ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing.
- Willingness to accept training in fire-fighting, CPR, first-aid and perform these functions.
- Experience with shift work is preferred.

PPE including safety glasses, earplugs, gloves, steel-toed shoes, hard hats, Nomex, and respirator must be worn when necessary and will be provided by the company.

Physical Demands: Frequent walking, stranding crouching and twisting required. Must be able to reach overhead, frequently squatting, kneeling, climbing, finger dexterity required. Must be able to lift light, moderate and heavy objects. Must be able to see, depth perception, full field and to distinguish colors as required in order to fix equipment. Must be able to climb heights up to 180 feet.
The Role
Reporting to the Shift Supervisor, as the Operator, you will be responsible for operating assigned processing, treating and/or distribution equipment by manual and/or instrument control under supervision. Quick question for you - click hereThis is a physical role, and you’ll spend the majority of your time (80-90%) out in the field working on a variety of equipment including pumps, valves, pipes, heat exchangers, drums, towers and more. You will also be responsible for taking level, temperature and pressure readings and drawing samples.
Emergency response will also be a key component to the role and this could involve anything from troubleshooting equipment failures to putting a fire out. You'll work with a variety of key contacts including professionals throughout Maintenance, Engineering, Environmental, Laboratory, Safety and more.
More specifically, your key accountabilities will be to:
- Comply with and enforce established rules and regulations in use of safety and environmental equipment.
- Start up and shut down process equipment and systems such as pump, air coolers, reciprocating and centrifugal compressors. Maintain fired furnaces in good and safe operating conditions.
- Monitor and adjust process equipment, process flows, temperatures, levels and pressures.
- Assist in trouble shooting equipment and process-related problems.
- Draw product samples for quality control testing. Perform field quality control tests as required.
- Transfer products from tank to tank for blending and shipping.
- Maintain or fill out surveys, checklists, inventories and journals as necessary. Monitor maintenance requirements and prepare notifications for work.
- Maintain assigned work area and equipment in a safe, orderly and clean condition. Report any unsafe or abnormal conditions.
- Attend emergency response classes and responds to refinery emergencies as required.
- Recognize hazards and take action by using stop-work authority if necessary.
- Perform other duties as required.
