The Requirements

To meet the basic qualification for this role, you will have legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship. In addition, to be a good fit for the Technical Specialist opportunity, you will have:
  • High School diploma or GED, required.

  • 5-10 years of experience with automation and process controls. 
  • Work experience in computer programming and troubleshooting required.  Quick question for you - click here
  • Honeywell TDC3000 DCS hardware/software experience and/or programming experience preferred. 
  • Knowledge and experience with PLC systems, instrumentation, field wiring practice and troubleshooting preferred.   
  • Experience working with P&ID’s, instrument loop drawings, PLC ladder logic programs, DCS configurations and graphics is desirable. 
  • Experience with safety systems.  
  • Computer skills including proficiency with Windows and Microsoft Office suite programs including Word, Excel, and Access.   
  • Knowledge of instrumentation and control system software and configuration tools in a PC environment is desirable. 
  • General mechanical and electrical knowledge and skills.
  • A commitment to safety.
  • A working knowledge of math and chemistry, with the ability to perform routine mathematical calculations.
Physical Demands:
  • Frequent walking, standing, and sitting required.  Must be able to reach overhead, squat, kneel, climb and grasp. Must be able to lift light, medium, and heavy objects.  Must have 20/40 vision or better, have depth perception, full field, and able to distinguish colors as required to perform duties.

You will work 9-hour shifts, on a 9/80 schedule. You'll also need to be flexible in your schedule, and able to work a rotating on-call schedule and overtime as needed.

The Role

Reporting directly to the Control Systems Supervisor, as the Technical Specialist, you will be required to administer, support, troubleshoot, repair, document and commission complex distributed process control and instrumentation systems and applications.  You will be responsible for maintaining the operational performance of the refinery DCS, PLC and other complex instrumentation systems to meet production goals. 

You will leverage your refinery experience to serve as a front-line resource and make an impact on our refinery operations. You will directly impact system reliability, availability and performance, and help us as we transition and migrate from legacy systems to new systems. 

You can expect to spend approximately 65 percent of your time at your computer, and the remainder of time out in the field. This role will support both hardware and software.  

Specific task areas you will perform include: 
  • System maintenance support including problem diagnosis, unscheduled maintenance repairs, planned preventive maintenance and system upgrades, hardware change and server build. 
  • DCS and PLC control configuration changes and graphic display building. 
  • Provide technical support on the Honeywell TDC3000 DCS, Triconex SIS, Allen-Bradley/Modicon/Woodward PLCs and other special purpose control systems as required. 
  • Safety shutdown system testing and the development of test procedures. 
  • Educate and support operations personnel on the function of unit process controls, monitor control loop performance and tune control loops. 
  • Manage field installation, loop check, construction, commissioning and system testing for projects as required.
