This prime leadership role is your opportunity to build best-in-class operations as we expand our retail footprint in the Northwest by adding several dozen fueling stations, convenience stores, car washes and quick-service restaurants to our portfolio. The role of Director of Retail Operations offers several compelling opportunities. You will: Your multi-faceted mission will include building and developing a strong team of managers, optimizing operations by guiding and empowering your team to drive success, implementing greater structure and best practices, developing quantifiable accountabilities, and more. This is a challenging role to be sure, but it's a role where you will see the impact of the processes/changes/improvements you implement and can feel proud of your accomplishments. 

Par Pacific Holdings, Inc., based in Houston, Texas, owns, manages and maintains interests in energy and infrastructure businesses. Par Pacific's strategy is to identify, acquire and operate energy and infrastructure companies with attractive competitive positions. We own and operate one of the largest energy infrastructure networks in Hawaii with a 94,000-bpd refinery, a logistics network supplying the major islands of the state and 90 retail locations. In Wyoming, Par Pacific owns a refinery and associated logistics network in a niche market. Par Pacific also owns 42.3% of Laramie Energy, LLC, a joint venture entity focused on producing natural gas in Garfield, Mesa and Rio Blanco Counties, Colorado. Par Pacific has an active, opportunistic growth strategy. Our common stock is publicly traded on the NYSE MKT under the trading symbol "PARR".

Par Petroleum LLC, a subsidiary of Par Pacific Holdings Inc., purchased 33 Cenex Zip Trip convenience stores in eastern Washington and northwestern Idaho recently. These c-stores are Par Pacific Holdings' first retail assets in the continental United States. 

The Requirements

To be a strong fit for the Director of Retail Operations, you will have:
  • 10+ years of leadership experience (Director level or above) in retail operations and retail development, including significant experience with C-store fueling locations Quick question for you - click here
  • Bachelor’s degree in Management, Business or other relevant focus; MBA preferred 
  • Demonstrated excellence in business leadership, including deep knowledge of general business philosophies and practices, with strategic vision and the ability to drive tactical execution 
  • Change management success; the ideal candidate will have experience managing organic growth and acquisitions
  • Computer skills, including proficiency with MS Office Suite applications including. Excel, Outlook and Word; ERP experience, SAP preferred
  • A valid driver’s license 
  • Willingness to travel as required (there's a good deal of road travel but you'll also travel to locations outside your region and to our corporate offices)

  • The ability to identify, select, hire and develop key personnel -- a people builder
  • Self-motivation with an independent, entrepreneurial approach, combined with the ability to serve as an outstanding member of the leadership team

The Role

Reporting to a senior leader, as Director of Retail Operations, you will be accountable for the bottom-line performance of several dozen convenience stores and fueling locations, including management, direction and coordination of retail operations, merchandise, facilities, safety, development activities and business related retail programs. You will be the top leader in the region and will take full ownership of your assigned stores. You will analyze systems, conceptualize needs and develop a plan including both short- and long-range goals and objectives to build an outstanding operation. You will drive a good many changes and a cultural shift, so it will also be important to gain buy-in and calm the group before you can effectively implement change. Putting the right managers in place will also be key.

While you'll enjoy a good deal of independence in performing your role, you'll also need to build in corporate mandates and work with corporate and other leaders to meet expectations. More specifically, you will be responsible for:
  • Effectively communicating, supporting and ensuring compliance with Company policies, accepted practices, and safety standards
  • Developing, coordinating and executing strategic and tactical plans as they relate to the development of retail operations, merchandise, facilities, safety, retail business development opportunities including, other business related to retail programs
  • Directing, coordinating and overseeing department activities through middle management, first-line supervisory and professional personnel including:
    • The formulation and implementation of policies and programs in the areas of retail operations, training, advertising and promotions 
    • The development and maintenance of database systems required to analyze operational opportunities, contracts, competitive activity, customer count and other related data
  • Ensuring maximum operating and profit effectiveness by monitoring performance and productivity; adjusting processes and procedures to create a more efficient and effective retail operations group
  • Defining, recommending and implementing short and long-range operating and business objectives; maximizing market share and increasing revenue
  • Planning, preparing and administering operating and capital budgets, forecasting for sales revenue, monitoring and controlling costs of operations
  • Assisting with the review of designated business processes and practices, developing key strategic business partnerships in the market, identifying opportunities for improving overall efficiency and performance of your assigned assets
  • Keeping current with laws, governmental regulations, trends, technology, systems and processes and development in the industry
  • Recommending and implementing appropriate changes
  • Cultivating and facilitating the success of direct reports; practicing and communicating the Company’s desired leadership style; demonstrating respect for the worth and dignity of each employee as an individual
  • Sharing relevant information consistently and in a timely manner, and encouraging open and honest communication without fear of reprisal
  • Managing projects and initiatives as assigned
  • Maintaining a high level of ethical standards
