The Requirements

To meet the basic qualification for this role, you will have legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship. In addition, to be a good fit for the Fuel Truck Driver opportunity, you will have:

  • A high school diploma or GED.
  • 3+ years of experience as a professional truck driver. Petroleum experience desired.
  • Type B license required, and type A preferred.
  • A clean driving abstract for the last 5 years.
  • General mechanical knowledge and skills.
  • A working knowledge of math and chemistry, with the ability to perform routine mathematical calculations.
  • The ability to lift a minimum of 60 pounds.
  • Experience with shift work is preferred.
Just as important will be the following competencies and characteristics:
  • A positive attitude and openness to learning new skills and processes.
  • Good communication skills, including the ability to represent Par Pacific effectively with customers.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work with deadlines.
  • Solid problem-solving skills.

The work schedule consists of 5 days a week, 8 hours per day.

The Role

Reporting to the Trucking Supervisor, you will join a team that currently has 17 Drivers and is growing. The team delivers various petroleum products, primarily fuel, to both company retail sites and commercial customers.

More specifically, you will:
  • Be responsible for the safe and efficient handling of receipts or disbursements to include barge unloading receipts and pipeline disbursements according to company, industry and governmental guidelines. Also responsible for quality control of products and plant maintenance. Performs work in support of terminal maintenance activities, such as valve and pipeline repair, and general manual labor. Also required to be on call respond to any emergency as instructed by the Terminal Supervisor.
  • Responds to terminal emergencies as instructed by the Terminal Supervisor, will coordinate emergency response measures.
  • Monitors truck loading in accordance with company and industry safety procedures.
  • Understands the operation procedures of HIE Terminal, its equipment, machinery and tools, and operates such equipment to perform jobs for which they were designated for.
  • Understands pipeline alignments and is able to manipulate the valves to direct the product flow to the desired location.
  • Gauges storage tanks for product, water, temperature and logs and computes information on the proper forms.
  • Conducts measurements and sampling as required in accordance with correct ASTMA/API standards. Performs relevant basic field test and analysis on products handled and transported by company or third party vehicles. Test could consist of API gravity, flash point, water, viscosity, MSEP, color, and Millipore. Assist in monitoring and reporting controls to ensure the integrity of all products being handled by HIE.
  • Performs maintenance on valves, pumps, packing, piping etc. and painting of plant components and structures as required.
  • Inspects all safety equipment weekly.
Driver duties:
  • Drives a tank truck/trailer to deliver gasoline, diesel and other refined petroleum products to domestic and commercial customers.
  • Receives from Supervisor or truck dispatcher the customer delivery schedule and organizes the delivery route to include all required preparations for deliveries.
  • Following the Department of Transportation safety specifications performs pre-delivery trip check on tank truck and fuels, inspects truck for general operating requirements, and ascertains that all required equipment is available and in good operating condition.
  • Drives a tank truck & trailer or tractor/ trailer to customer’s location, connects hose to tank and opens valves, reads gauges, record amounts delivered to ensure the integrity of all products being handled by HIE and leaves delivery ticket receipt with customer.
  • Establishes/maintains good customer service and rapport while handling customer’s questions or schedules. Calls customers before loading/leaving load rack to make sure customer can receive load. Answer inquiries as appropriate and/or refers customers to company source(s) for accurate response.
  • Returns to the Terminal at the end of the workday and completes post trip truck inspection to determine if repairs are necessary. Accurately completes all regulatory and customary paperwork.
  • Maintains assigned work areas, tank truck vehicle and/or its equipment in a clean and orderly manner performing housekeeping chores as required and/or directed.
  • Follows, maintains and adheres to all safety rules and regulations for loading docks, customer premises, traffic laws, rules and regulations. Reports all safety and environmental incidents and concerns to supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Trucking Supervisor.
Other Duties
  • Performs general maintenance and other duties as required.
  • Spraying weeds-killers on weeds and other unnecessary plants, and weeding.
  • Weed-whacking to control growth of weeds and other plants, and weeding.
  • Sweeping and general up-keeping of sites daily.
  • Alternate duties including answering phones, taking orders and providing a certain amount of customer service.
  • Assists other departments in various duties as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as required.
