POSITION SUMMARY:
Entry level position responsible for assisting in the compliance of environmental regulations primarily pertaining to RCRA. Will be qualified to manage both non-hazardous and hazardous wastes in the field. Maintains various records and generates reports. Also responsible for field work associated with the Clean Air Act and Clean Water Act regulations.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conducts weekly and monthly fugitive emission inspections on all applicable Refinery valves, pumps, and drains and generates necessary reports.Assists in repairing leaks that are discovered during fugitive emission inspections and maintaining inspection equipment and equipment ID tags.
- Inspect satellite waste accumulation areas weekly and fill in satellite inspection log sheets.
- Manage residuals generated in each satellite accumulation area.This entails collecting and transferring residuals from the satellite accumulation areas to staging areas.
- Prepare residuals for transportation to offsite disposal facilities.This entails loading and unloading containers, roll-off boxes, supersacks, and drums and weighing them as necessary.Loading of bulk solids with equipment such as hoptoes or forklifts is required.
- Collect samples of residuals so that proper laboratory testing can be conducted.
- Conduct general waste cleanup and housekeeping across the entire refinery property, to include trash management.
- Required to prepare containers, rolloffs, and drums for reuse (clean, install liners, etc.).In addition, drums that can not be re-used must be cleaned and cut-up for disposal.
- Manage refinery new and used catalysts by segregating different types of catalysts, transferring catalyst between storage, process unit, and waste stations, and assisting in loading/unloading catalysts during turnarounds.
- Assists with Refinery waste management audits and environmental pollution field surveys.
- Assist in implementing special projects in the field, such as waste minimization efforts, or ground water monitoring and cleanup.
- Assists in maintaining a computer database which contains information on valves and pumps and on fugitive emission inspection results.
- Assists the Environmental Department in developing, implementing, and administering programs for source performance testing, ground water monitoring, hazardous waste management and disposal, and VOC fugitive emission inspection.
- Assists in maintaining records associated with operating permits and regulations.
- Assists with special sampling requirements, such as the annual Benzene NESHAPS sampling.
- Performs other duties and special assignments as necessary.
EDUCATION:
High school diploma.
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum two years experience in a manufacturing/maintenance type of environment. Previous experience with environmental regulations is desired.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Refer to ADA Job Audit sheet detailing physical demands.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
Initial 24 hour Hazwoper training with annual eight hour refresher training required. Able to operate refinery trucks, forklift, and hoptoe. Able to work with a variety of power tools, air tools, and hand tools. Good organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills are required. Have basic understanding of computer programs.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works 9/80 schedule. Overtime is required. Emergency call-outs on Saturdays and Sundays. Spends approximately 10% of time in office environment and 90% of time in the field.
