The Requirements

To be a strong fit for this opportunity you will have: 
  • BS/BA degree in accounting or related field of study;
  • 5+ years accounting experience in private industry and/or public accounting - industry experience preferred;

  • SAP experience preferred;
  • SOX experience and a strong understanding and working knowledge of internal controls;
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills including the ability to develop sophisticated spreadsheets that include advanced and interactive functions such as macros, pivot tables and other advanced formulas;
  • The ability to communicate clearly in both verbal and written form and to collaborate and build positive rapport with all levels of staff and management across functional areas;
  • Responsive, organized and detail oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines;
  • Ability to work independently and research and resolve reconciling items and periodic, non-recurring issues as they arise.

The Role

Reporting to the Accounting Supervisor with a dotted-line to the Accounting Manager, as a member of the shared services finance-accounting team, you will be primarily responsible for performing general ledger accounting. You’ll focus a large part of your efforts on supporting the Accounts Receivable (AR) function for our retail sites throughout Hawaii, which includes approximately 130 stores. You’ll keep a running reconciliation of our AR balances and ensure data is input into the system accurately and efficiently. 

You’ll also help track fuel activities as we transport fuel from our suppliers to our retail operations. You’ll be responsible for gathering information and reconciling the data related to the fuel transport. You’ll work with other departments throughout the organization to troubleshoot any errors and find a solution. Additionally, you will partner with our accounting customers (including retail stores, dealers and operators) as you assist them with inputting data and resolving any issues that may come up. 

During closing time, you will shift your activities to closing activities, while also balancing your entries and reconciliations. 

More specifically, your key responsibilities will be to: 
  • Prepare and maintain supporting schedules, general ledger account reconciliations and SAP/PDI journal entries for the month-end close including the reconciliation of inter-company transactions;
  • Work closely with Accounting Manager to ensure compliance with company policies and procedures and Sarbanes Oxley requirements; Quick question for you - click here
  • Support internal and external audits and information requests; 
  • Oversee day-to-day accounting functions;
  • Recommend improvements to systems, processes, policies, and procedures including SOX- compliance requirements;
  • Participate in the response to inquiries from local management, as well as Par Corporate management, such as variance explanations, audit requests, internal and external reporting requirements and other inquiries as they arise;
  • Participate in the development and completion of special projects as assigned;
  • Develop and maintain desktop procedures and update Sharepoint to include all available documents;
  • Understand the operations of other companies in the organization in order to build on and learn from what have been deemed best practices; 
  • Manage personnel down the line as the team grows, as required.
