The Requirements

To meet the basic qualification for this role, you will have legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship. In addition, to be a good fit for the Human Resources Manager opportunity, you will have:
  • A bachelor’s Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Professional certification (SPHR or PHR) is a plus.
  • Significant and broad experience in human resources, including solid experience at the manager level.

The Role

You will report to the Regional Human Resource Manager. In turn, you will oversee two HR Business Partners and provide dotted-line supervision to an external recruiter.   • Marketing, which includes the movers and shakers. Marketing also includes our retail arm, including store managers, customer service associates and others in the gas stations/convenience stores.
  • Logistics, which includes pipelines, terminals, barges, trucking and more. Employees include engineers, truck drivers, maintenance technicians, terminal operators and others.
You will be directly responsible for the overall human resource activities and programs in these two areas. This will include ensuring alignment of HR initiatives with corporate objectives as well as with objectives in each area, while building and maintaining effective relationships with the workforce. You'll be a key player in partnering with the marketing and logistics leadership in organization design activities that foster and sustain a high-performance work culture with an outstanding safety record.

You'll implant and execute key strategies, programs and activities in all areas of HR, investing a good deal of time in two areas. Your activities in the area of employee relations will include:
  • Developing programs and activities that enhance employee engagement and positive employee relations.
  • Building action plans to improve employee relations to maximize productivity and capitalize on growth opportunities for the business.
  • Providing information, advice and assistance to leadership regarding application of statutes, regulations and employee relations practices relating to their functional areas.
  • Supervising staff, including hiring, evaluating, training, disciplining and recommending dismissal of staff as necessary.
  • Managing the process to investigate and respond to complaints from the Bureau of Labor or other agencies.
Your responsibilities in compensation & benefits will include:
  • Evaluating compensation structure, job grade assignment, incentive plans and salary, and making recommendations for change or improvement.
  • Managing existing corporate-driven comp & benefit programs and proposing creative initiatives to improve positive employee relations or drive business results.
  • Approving payroll.
While both marketing and logistics are non-union, you also will help with union negotiations and labor relations with regard to refinery employees. You'll also spend up to 10% to of your time in the Kapolei refinery as needed, such as covering for others in HR.
