The Requirements

To be a good fit for the Pump Mechanic opportunity, you will have:
  • A high school diploma or GED equivalent
  • 3+ years of experience working on pumps preferred. We will also consider newer and seasoned mechanics with a positive attitude and strong work ethic  Quick question for you - click here
  • Good mechanical knowledge of equipment repair and all mechanical seals and pumps; general knowledge of maintenance tools
  • Knowledge of pump and compressor repair in both shop and field environments
  • Ability to read and record all micrometer readings and use the decimal system in recording equipment measurements 
  • Ability to perform equipment repairs on all heavy equipment; experience with basic auto repair
  • Solid computer skills including MS Office (e.g. Word & Excel)
  • General bearing knowledge and number system understanding
  • Some knowledge of lathe operation and milling work; understanding of equipment balancing and its purpose
  • Ability to operate a balancing machine, proper use of oxygen / acetylene torch and minor welding experience.
  • A valid driver's license and clean driving record 
  • Ability to complete pump repairs independently and on a timely basis
  • A commitment to working safely and in keeping with company policy
  • The ability to lift and carry 60 pounds

You will work a monthly schedule including 12 hour days and nights (6 AM to 6 PM and 6 PM to 6 AM). Your schedule will be: 4 days on, 7 days off, 4 nights on, 3 days off, 3 days on, 1 day off, 3 nights on, repeat. There is no on-call rotation, but you should be flexible and willing to help should there be a plant outage or for turn-around work.

The Role

Reporting to a Maintenance Supervisor, as Pump Mechanic, you will be the sixth member of an outstanding, tenured pump team (part of the larger maintenance team) responsible for 150+ pumps currently in operation. There are 300+ total pumps at the refinery and pipeline. 40 miles of refined product pipeline feeds our Newcastle refinery, which produces high-quality gasoline, distillates, fuel oil diesel, jet fuel and other products.

The majority of your time will be spent on pump maintenance and repair requests, generated through a ticketing system, but you'll also spend time on inspection and other repairs. We anticipate 30%-40% of your time will be spent in the field with the remaining time spent working in the shop at the refinery. Depending on the needed field repair, you could pull and fix a pump there or bring it back to the shop.

As part of your responsibilities, you will:
  • Perform a daily inspection of the pipeline and refinery pumps.
  • Enter work orders for pumps identified as needing repair. 
  • Organize and prioritize your day by using the maintenance and repair work order system.
  • Perform your duties following company policies and procedures, and from written or verbal instructions. 
  • Maintain a strict commitment to safety in all that you do.

  • Perform minor work on heavy equipment and vehicles as needed, e.g. routine maintenance and minor repairs (approximately 10%).
  • Operate a balance machine, torch and welder when needed.
  • Perform micrometer reading and recordings as well as use of dial indicators
  • Maintain records/documentation as required.
