The Requirements
To meet the basic qualification for this role, you will have legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship. - Demonstrated mechanical skills, with experience in some or all of the following areas: construction, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, food service equipment, point-of-sale equipment, and/or instrumentation/electronics/computers.
- The ability to:
- Earn Gilbarco Dispenser Fueling Certification and be re-certified each year.
- Work with equipment, tools and materials as required.
- Communicate in English (orally and in writing), including proficient telephone communication skills.
- Solid interpersonal skills and a customer service approach to supporting other team members.
- A valid Hawaii driver’s License and the ability to drive company-controlled vehicles.
- Any certification in technical or mechanical training will be considered.
- Experience in retail operations.
- Experience working in retail petroleum fueling areas.
- Basic skills in Microsoft Office, including Excel.
We want you to be aware of the following as you consider this position. In this role you will:
- Need to be able to perform essential duties and work in different conditions, including working outdoors in adverse weather.
- Be flexible in your schedule, although for the most part you will work regular business hours Monday through Friday (we will be flexible about your exact start time, etc.).
- Travel to neighboring islands, on occasion, for special projects.
- Need the ability to lift at least 50 lbs., and to climb ladders to work on rooftops.
- Need to be available for call-outs as necessary, although there are others who will be called before you.
The Role
You will be responsible for assisting the Facilities Manager and Lead Maintenance Technician with the overall day-to-day maintenance and repair of Par Hawaii Retail’s branded stores, to ensure maximum operational performance.We'll start you with an extensive training program that includes our own topics as well as training and certification directly from Gilbarco, the manufacturer of our fuel dispensers. Once you are up to speed, your duties include maintenance and repair of the consumer fueling areas and convenience stores, by performing overall equipment, building, and property maintenance, troubleshooting and repair. Duties may also include general custodial, and grounds keeping tasks. On a daily basis, you will review the list of new and outstanding requests. In collaboration with the Lead, you will set priorities and schedule your day accordingly.
More specifically you will:
- Respond to work orders dispatched by our maintenance call center.
- Perform initial troubleshooting of equipment described in maintenance work order.
- Repair/replace equipment components, as determined necessary.
- Perform general repair of building components, such as door locks, handles, or hinges.
- Assess other issues as requested and report back to the Facilities Manager.
- Support retail safety programs.
- Perform other duties as required.

On the Facilities Maintenance team, we consider ourselves a service organization and the Retail Area Managers and Store Managers are our customers. To fit in well you should see yourself as a resource who can help people keep their stores running smoothly. You'll need a positive, can-do attitude and the ability to get along with different personalities.As we've said, we'll provide training. In return, we'll expect you to be proactive about working through the different courses as quickly as possible. In addition to the initial training, there will be periodic training to keep your skills up to date.
We'll assign you a company vehicle and you should be proactive about keeping it neat and clean. About once a week you should ensure the interior and exterior are in top shape, and also check the inventory and return any parts or equipment you don't need. In addition, in order to be an outstanding Maintenance Technician you will:
